During their 50th Anniversary get together of the Mountaineers Motorcycle Club, Mike Akatiff decided to build a bike to set a new world record.
Mike Akatiff, along with Jim True, began work on the streamliner.
The Ack Attack Team went to their first Bonneville Speed Week in Utah where rider Jimmy Odom had to make a number of trial runs to qualify. He passed the test with a speed of 225 mph but was not able to compete because the event ended before he finished his trial runs.
At the International Speed Trails by BUB, Ack Attack was hit by a crosswind while pushing 300 mph. Fortunately, Jimmy Odom was uninjured when the motorcycle streamliner crashed in the high-speed wipe out.
The Ack Attack Team returned for Bonneville Nationals where it recorded a two-way average speed of 328.304 mph. It became the first motorcycle to set a record over 300 mph in its first season at Bonneville with a new machine and a rookie rider since the organized event started in 1949. However, this was a club record and not recognized by the world sanctioning body FIM.
The Ack Attack team travelled to Lake Gairdner, Australia, in an attempt to break the motorcycle land-speed record. With a travelling crew of 23 people, including riders Sam Wheeler and John Noonan, the team arrived near Lake Gairdner, Australia, only to discover the area had been hit with a thunderstorm. The poor conditions that would not help achieve record-breaking speed. However, they ran some test runs but were only able to reach top speed of 249mph.
Rocky Robinson, riding TOP 1 Ack Attack, broke the FIM world motorcycle land-speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats during the BUB motorcycle meet. The motorcycle reached a speed of 342.797 mph, which was 20 mph faster than the previous record that had stood for over 16 years. However, two days later BUB Lucky 7 streamliner, at 350 mph, broke the record. Ack Attack made numerous runs during the meet, reaching 349 mph, but was not able to exceed the new record.
At the International Speed Trials by BUB, Rocky Robinson rode the Ack Attack but was met with an unfortunate accident at a speed in excess of 320mph. He crashed the bike and rolled 16 times.
Ack Attack was back at Bonneville at the Mike Cook Land Speed Shootout with Rocky Robinson at the controls. Ack Attack broke the motorcycle land-speed record for the second time and the new world-record mark was set at 360.913.
The Ack Attack record was broken at the Mike Cook Land Speed Shootout event with a speed of 367 mph. Ack Attack did not compete at this meet.
Ack Attack, for the third time in four years, set a new world record at Bonneville with an average speed of 376.363 mph with Rocky Robinson in the rider's seat again. His maximum-recorded speed was 394 mph.

Attempted to break record again, but unfortunately the salt was not of raceable quality and so the event was postponed.
